haiku wednesday - July 16, 2008

This week's words are
history
narrow
spent

I found these to be very difficult words this week, at least for light haiku. I think it's in part because "spent" has mostly negative connotation. I feel I could have done better, but time is pressing and I need to start in on my work day!

the narrow minded
never learn from history
lives spent in bad wars

spent English sleeping
failed Econ and History
but won narrow vote

spent one narrow dime
wished for history regained
you changed your number

The first is so true, and I liked the irony of the third.

I love that you do these. Excellent creative practice! And you do so well, too, despite your protestations to the contrary.

The second one cracked me up! You probably didn't mean for it to be funny, but I found it funny anyway.

time constraints be damned!!! you did a great job... my take on first contact with the words was very similar to your first one......

I thought those were fine, though. (I won't have time to start mine until this evening.)

My favorite was the "one narrow dime" one. Takes me back to the pay phone days. They just don't get much use anymore. :)

I'd say you hit the points spot on. My favorites (sorry, I have a 'my favorites' compulsion) are numbers 1 and 3.

Hi Pete: Non-sequitur alert ;o) Thanks for leaving the mpg link to your reading vid on Robin's blog. It buffered pretty slow, so I went ahead and downloaded it. Worked great. Tried to zero in on some of your book titles there, but the resolution wasn't quiiiite good enough. Drat. Loved it! You're a sweetie to go through the trouble of converting the file to something I can see. Thank you!!!!

I like the irony of your third one too.

And I loved your comment about the White House on Ello's blog -- you gave me my first laugh of the day, so thank you.

thanks, all, for your comments. I'm sorry I am now in my 12-hour-workday cycle of the year (which lasts for the next three months), so I won't always have time to visit everyone else.

anthony and tumblewords and one more believer: thanks for stopping by!

sarah and lucy and Calamity Jane: aw, shucks! >blush<

tc, it was half meant to be funny and half not. Sort of a rueful humor, or humorous ruefulness.

paisley, I'm glad I stopped by yours. Anyone reading this comment trail: go to paisley's blog and check out her "10 things this woman knows about love" post. Instant classic.

joyce & daily panic: the last time I saw a pay phone used was by a 9 year old boy who jokingly dialed 911 and then got chewed out by the operator.

robin, I love how your favorites comprise 67% of the total. :-)

phoenix: you're the sweetie for actually watching the thing! I already had it as mpeg and just posted it to my personal site.

mary, glad you liked that comment. Seemed pretty obvious to me. :-)
