haiku wednesday - August 19, 2009

This week's words are
decay
graceful
riot

Tough morning after a very very long work night. I may skip the gym, but I won't skip my 3WW! Today I had to break from my purist tradition and use a derivative of one of the words. Today's haiku pay homage to Town Hall Meetings, the roaches that host certain "fair and balanced" "news" programs, and codgers who chaperon high school mixers. My only regret is that I was unable to use "truth decay" in a more extended dental metaphor.

shout ungraceful lies
truth decay results in riot
revolution, now

graceful webs decay
when spiders don't maintain them
bugs, freed, run riot

decay in morals
turns dance to lewd riot
no graceful waltzes

Political Haiku! I love it!

Great stuff.

Nicely, I see what you mean about 'truth decay' it would have been cool to get 'cavity' in there, perhaps.

Yowza. Truth decay. Love it. And I can say that I don't have a favorite among these - they're all too good.

#2 is exactly why I'm happy to encounter spiders in my home.

All three are really great!

Profound meanings hidden in the few words!

Pete, do you find yourself more creative after having written these haikus for a while? Seems like you would be---finding different ways to put the same words together.

Thanks, everyone, for the very kind comments! I am hoping to make the rounds today, assuming nothing blows up at work.

Chris, interesting question. I don't think I feel more creative after doing the haiku. To me, 3WW haiku are like a word game. It's been a year since I've had the time to be a regular at EE's site, and these have sort of taken the place of my Guess The Plot entries. I do think 3WW for me is a bit like doing lexical sit-ups once a week, just to keep from going too mentally flabby.

The second one was my favourite.

All 3 are great but I luv the second one! So clever.

That first haiku leaves such a strong impression, it effected how I viewed the next two. Having just read about lies, and truth decay, I thought of the spider as corrupt politicians and media failing to keep their web intact. The last one, still is about truth decay..on a personal level, when morals decline. Great writing!

"Truth decay" rulez! Loved the first one the most. I for one, certainly don't mind the derivatives. :D
